اللَّهُم إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَن أَشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ
كانت هناك ثلاث فتحات، اثنتان منهما صغيرتان جدًا. أما الثالثة فكانت مسدودة بحجر.

لم يكن لهم اهتمام بالغزال ذي القرون الضخمة الذي قتلوه، وبعد استراحة قصيرة، أمر ماي جميع المحاربين بالهجوم المشترك لطرد هذين الوحشين.

انتفض شاو شوان جالسًا وفتح عينيه. رفع يده إلى جبينه، فوجد كفّه مبللًا بعرق بارد.
بعد أن لاحظ ماي ذلك الأمر، أخذ يتساءل بشأنه هو الآخر.

كان متيقّنًا من أنّ أياً من هذين الريح السوداء الشائكة ليس ذاك الذي قطع طرف ذيله في المرة الماضية. لم يكن أي محارب طوطَميّ ليُعَرِّض نفسه لمثل هذا الوحش عمدًا، لكن طوال سنوات صيده، خاض ماي مواجهات سابقة مع هذا المخلوق، وكان يفهم قدرته على التعافي. وبما أنّه هو من أحدث تلك الإصابة بنفسه، كان يعلم أن الأمر يستغرق أكثر من خمسين أو ستين يومًا ليشفى الريح السوداء الشائكة تمامًا.

ثم إنّ ماي خلال هذا الاشتباك الطويل أصبح أكثر شكًّا في دافع هذين الوحشين. بدا وكأنهما غير مستعدين للقتال حتى الموت مع المحاربين. بعض المحاربين جُرحوا، كما ظهرت جروح جديدة على جسدي الوحشين. ولحسن الحظ، لم يكونا متهورَين ومجنونَين مثل ذلك الذي واجهوه سابقًا. لكن… أين ذهب ذلك الريح السوداء الشائكة الأخير، ذاك الذي تمزق ذيله؟ هل طُرد الآن من قِبل هذين الاثنين؟
انتفض شاو شوان جالسًا وفتح عينيه. رفع يده إلى جبينه، فوجد كفّه مبللًا بعرق بارد.
قالت تشياو: “يبدو أنهما فقط يريدان منعنا من الصعود.”
“هيا!”
وأضاف محارب آخر من المحاربين الطوطميين متوسطي المستوى، وكان بسنّ ماي نفسه وخبرة قريبة من خبرته، وقد واجه هذا الوحش في الماضي مرات عدّة وسمع قصصًا عنه من الشيوخ، فقال بدهشة:

ومع سماع ذلك الارتجاف، ثقلَت قلوب المحاربين، وتصبّب العرق البارد أسفل ظهورهم.

قال ماي بحزم: “لا مزيد من التسويف، علينا طرد هذين الوحشين!”
لكن شاو شوان لم يشعر بأي دفء، بل ظلّ يحس ببرودة تتسلل شيئًا فشيئًا.
لم يكن الظلام قد اكتمل بعد، وما زال بالإمكان رؤية ما حولهم. لكن إن حلّ الظلام الكامل، ستنقلب الأوضاع عليهم.

وإن حاولوا الصعود نحو منتصف الجبل دون طرد هذين الوحشين، فسيتبعهما الوحشان. ولم يكن ماي وبقية المحاربين ليسمحوا بهما بالوصول إلى الكهف حيث ينام الصبيّان. صحيح أنّ الريح السوداء الشائكة لا يحبّ البيئة الأعلى في الجبل، لكنه ليس عاجزًا عن الصعود.

قالت تشياو: “يبدو أنهما فقط يريدان منعنا من الصعود.”

لم يكن حولهما سوى فتيين مستيقظين… ولا أحد لينقذهما… ووحش قادر على تمزيقهما بسهولة يقترب ببطء نحو المدخل.

لم يكن الجدار أملس، وكانت تلك البروز والحفر تساعده على التسلق.
أخذ شاو شوان نفسًا عميقًا وهو يستعيد تفاصيل حلمه، محاولًا تهدئة أعصابه. كانت البرودة أقوى بكثير مما شعر به حين حلم بطيور الليل العام الماضي. وكان قلبه لا يزال يخفق بشدة. لم يكن متأكدًا إن كان ذلك بسبب الخوف أو لسبب آخر.
الفصل 45 – مخلوقات خارج الكهف
نظر جانبًا، فوجد ماو مائلًا على جدار الكهف، نائمًا بعمق. لقد أصدر شاو شوان ضوضاءً واضحة حين استيقظ، لكن عادةً، المحارب الطوطَميّ خلال الصيد يستيقظ لأقل صوت. إلا أنّ ماو كان غارقًا في النوم، بلا أي ردّ. لا بد أنه تأثير اللحم الذي أكلاه. وكان هذا أفضل من سيرانه بلا توقف كالنمل فوق جمر.
ارتفعت ألسنة النار، ورأى ماو ظله الطويل يرقص على الجدار بصورة مشوهة.
بعد أن دفئت أطرافه قليلًا وهدأت أعصابه، أضاف بعض الحطب للنار ثم سار تدريجيًا نحو مدخل الكهف.
كان ماو في غاية التوتر. لم يعرف ما الذي كان خارج الكهف، وماي والبقية لم يعودوا، وشاو شوان لم يشرح أي شيء. في العادة، كان سيصيح منذ البداية، لكن الآن…
من تجاربه السابقة، كان يعلم أنّ أحلامه لا تأتي عبثًا. لكنه لم يعرف ما الذي ينتظره خارجًا.
“ماو، هل تذوقت طعم اليأس من قبل؟”
كانت الصخرة الضخمة تُغلق المدخل تمامًا، ولم يكن شاو شوان قادرًا على تحريكها وحده، كما لم تكن لديه النية لفعل ذلك، فخارج الكهف كان يعج بالأخطار، وبقاء الصخرة في مكانها كان أكثر أمانًا.

كان المدخل يبعد حوالي خمسين مترًا عن مكان نومه. كلما اقترب خطوة، ازداد خفق قلبه، حتى بلغ حدّ الجنون.
ما الذي واجهوه؟
كلما صار أقرب، ازداد شعوره بالخطر. وقف شعر جسده، وشعر وكأنه داخل جبل من الجليد.
عندما يشتدّ انفعال الريح السوداء الشائكة، تبدأ أشواكه بالارتجاف، مُصدِرةً صوتًا متواصلاً متراصًّا. لم يكن عاليًا، لكن كثافته جعلته سهل التمييز.
أبطأ خطواته، وخفّف أنفاسه قدر الإمكان، محاولًا أن يخفي وجوده.

وعندما صار على بعد عشرة أمتار فقط من المدخل، سمع أصوات نقر خفيفة متواصلة… بدت كالوهم، وكأنها تمر بمحاذاة أذنه.
قبل قليل، سمع لانغ غا والآخرون عواء الريح السوداء الشائكة، فقرروا النزول لمساعدة المجموعة.
كانت النار تزداد اشتعالًا بسبب الحطب الجديد. وتمايلت ألسنة اللهب، متراقصة، ومعها ظل شاو شوان على الجدار، بين امتدادٍ وانكماش. وانبعثت بين الحين والآخر أصوات طقطقة من الحطب المحترق.
ومع سماع ذلك الارتجاف، ثقلَت قلوب المحاربين، وتصبّب العرق البارد أسفل ظهورهم.
لكن شاو شوان لم يشعر بأي دفء، بل ظلّ يحس ببرودة تتسلل شيئًا فشيئًا.
لم يكن ماو غبيًا لدرجة ألا يفهم. لو كان كذلك لما سُمح له بالانضمام إلى مهمة الصيد. وبمجرد رؤية تصرفات شاو شوان، أيقن أن شيئًا خطيرًا ينتظر بالخارج.
تنفّس بصمت وبعمق محاولًا التماسك، ثم عاد أدراجه بخفة، دون إصدار أي صوت.
هذه المرة لم يكن هناك طيور سنونو ليلية ولا ندَف ثلج. كان الظلام دامسًا، لكنه شعر بوضوح ببرودة لاذعة كأن شيئًا ما يترصده في العتمة. وفي الوقت نفسه، كانت هناك أصوات نقر كثيفة، كأن شيئًا يهتزّ.

ودخلت نسمة ليل باردة من الفجوة الحديثة.
من تجاربه السابقة، كان يعلم أنّ أحلامه لا تأتي عبثًا. لكنه لم يعرف ما الذي ينتظره خارجًا.
ارتفعت ألسنة النار، ورأى ماو ظله الطويل يرقص على الجدار بصورة مشوهة.
لم يتذكر ماو ماذا أجاب حينها. لكنه لم يكن قد أولى السؤال أي اهتمام… لأنه لم يفهم معناه تمامًا.
طوال حياته، لم يعش ماو موقفًا كهذا. ومهما كان عدد قصص الصيد التي سمعها أو رواها، لم يعرف شعور الخطر الحقيقي إلا الآن.
قبل قليل، سمع لانغ غا والآخرون عواء الريح السوداء الشائكة، فقرروا النزول لمساعدة المجموعة.
لم يكن حولهما سوى فتيين مستيقظين… ولا أحد لينقذهما… ووحش قادر على تمزيقهما بسهولة يقترب ببطء نحو المدخل.

أخذ شاو شوان نفسًا عميقًا وهو يستعيد تفاصيل حلمه، محاولًا تهدئة أعصابه. كانت البرودة أقوى بكثير مما شعر به حين حلم بطيور الليل العام الماضي. وكان قلبه لا يزال يخفق بشدة. لم يكن متأكدًا إن كان ذلك بسبب الخوف أو لسبب آخر.
