نظر جاكوب العجوز إلى خارج الجدار الزجاجي، إذ يستطيع رؤية المدينة بأكملها من هذا الطابق الذي كان على ارتفاع ألف متر عن الأرض، عيناه هادئة وغير مهتمة بأي شيء وهو ينظر إلى المدينة من الأعلى. كان الأمر كما لو أنه فقد اهتمامه بالعالم بأكمله نفسه.
