لم يقل كايل شيئًا، وظلّ يحدّق بها بتلك النظرة الغريبة.
فحصت المقعد أمامي من كلّ زاوية. ومهما أطلت النظر، لم أجد عيبًا واحدًا. كان له نفس الرائحة والملمس والمظهر، بل وحتى الصوت، كمقعد عادي. ما كنت لأفرّق بينه وبين مقعد في العالم الحقيقي.
وفي النهاية، قرّر ألّا يُطيل الأمر أكثر، وألقى بعدّة أوراق على مكتبها.

نظرت زوي إلى الأوراق في ارتباك، لكن ما إن لمحَت عنوانها حتى تجمّدت ملامحها.

“اختبارات القسم.”
ظهر بالطريقة نفسها تمامًا كما كانت تظهر الأشياء التي اشتريتها من المتجر، فأمسكت به على عجل، لأكتشف أنّه أخفّ ممّا توقّعت.
تبعها صوت كايل بعد لحظات قصيرة.

“…لستُ متأكدًا متى ستبدأ، لكن لن يطول الأمر. النقابة لا تزال تُعالج التبعات بعد البوّابة. سيُعلنون قريبًا. على أي حال، سيحدث ذلك لا محالة.”
غطّت زوي وجهها بيديها.

“لم أفكّر في الأمر بعد. أنا سعيدة للغاية هنا. لا أرى سببًا يجبرني على التغيير، لكن ليس الأمر كعرض يمكنني أن ألقيه في القمامة ببساطة. الشروط فقط…”

يُرسَلون إلى الجزيرة الرئيسية لتمثيل النقابة في مؤتمر النقابات العالمي، وهو حدث تجتمع فيه فرق من كل النقابات حول العالم للتنافس، طمعًا في النصر والاعتراف العالمي.

كان حدثًا شاركت فيه زوي في الماضي. كما كان كايل حاضرًا أيضًا.
